Is Your Business READY for a Digital Products? 3 Signs it's time to create a passive income stream!

Imagine waking up slowly, brewing your favorite coffee, opening your laptop, and seeing a sale notification waiting for you WITHOUT a new client call on the schedule, getting on stories to sell your products, or adding extra hours added to your schedule.

Just that digital product you created months ago continuing to support your clients & community (and bring in additional income) while you relax, sip your morning latte, and enjoy time in the garden or doing your other cozy hobbies before the work day starts.

If you've been curious about passive income but aren't sure whether your business is "ready" for yet, here are 3 signs I see over and over again with my clients that tell me you are READY to create your first digital product!

So get cozy, grab that cup of coffee, and watch or read below to see if your business is ready for a new passive income stream!

  1. The first sign your business is ready for passive products: Your Calendar Is Full But Your Bank Account Isn’t

One of the most common frustrations for entrepreneurs is having a schedule that's bursting at the seams while your income doesn't seem to match the effort. You might be spending hours on client calls, answering emails, creating custom products, or trying to squeeze "just one more thing" into a day that's already packed.

Before I created passive products, I found myself fully booked with coaching clients, yet I still wasn't making the money I wanted to make. And God forbid I wanted to take a sick day, enjoy a long weekend, or spend an afternoon wandering around the farmer's market with my wife. If I wasn't sitting behind my desk actively working, I wasn't getting paid.

I wish someone had told me back then what I'm about to tell you now: a full schedule does not equal a successful business. Sometimes it simply means you've reached capacity. You've maxed out the current version of your business and it's time for it to evolve. That's where passive products come in. Whether it's an ebook, course, template, guide, workbook, or digital download, passive products allow you to create something once and sell it over and over again. They create spaciousness in your schedule by helping you build a more sustainable income stream that isn't dependent on every hour you work.

This is your sign it's time to grow your business the softer, slower, and more spacious way. Because the goal isn't to cram more into your calendar. It's to create a business that supports your most magical life instead of consuming it.

But how do you know what passive product to create that your audience actually wants and sells itself so you don't have to 24/7?

Lucky for you I have a FREE worksheet to discover Your Perfect Passive Product in just 5 quick questions!

  1. The second sign your business is ready for passive products: People Ask You the Same Questions Repeatedly

If you’ve been in business for a while, you’ve probably been asked the same questions over and over again on client calls or in your DMs. Whether it’s about how you create your handmade goods, secrets to growing your social media, or they "just want to pick your brain for a minute", these FAQs are a good thing!

These repeated questions are the a perfect starting point for your passive product. By compiling all answers and expertise into a guide, tutorial, or step-by-step course, you can address these common questions and have a place to direct the next person that asks you it yet again. This not only saves you time and makes you money, but also improves your customer’s experience by giving them instant access to the information they need right now!

For example, a coach (aka me 💁🏼‍♀️) might find themselves explaining the same concepts (of how to speed up in business so you can slow down in life) in every session. Turning those explanations into a digital workbook or video series (Rest & Revenue) allows clients to learn at their own pace and provides a lower cost option so more people can be in your world of work. And hopefully one day upgrade to your other offers 😉

Creating a passive product reduces burnout by cutting down on repetitive work, helps you build a more scalable business model, AND serves your clients & community whenever they need it. It's literally a win-win-win!

But before you get too excited and close this blog to open Canva to start creating your first passive product, you need to ask yourself one more questions to make sure your business is really ready!

  1. The third sign your business is ready for passive products: You’ve Been in Business for at Least Six Months and Have an Engaged Audience

I think this is the sign that surprises people the most because so many entrepreneurs believe they need a huge audience before they can create a passive product. Maybe you've been putting it off until 10,000 followers or some other crazy number. The truth is, you don't need a huge audience, but an engaged one.

I've seen influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers struggle to make a single sale, while small business owners with fewer than 5,000 followers hit six-figures consistently. It's not the size that matters—it's the depth of connection. (Yes, I know how that sounds. I'm leaving it in anyways lol)

If people are opening your emails, commenting on your posts, buying your products, leaving reviews, or regularly engaging with your content, you already have what you need. A small warm audience will almost always outperform a large cold audience. These are people who already know, like, and trust you, which makes launching a passive product so much easier!

That said, I do recommend waiting until you've been in business for at least six months. Not because there's some magical rulebook, but because you need time to develop your skills, refine your process, and make sure what you're teaching or sharing actually works. Whether you're creating a course, guide, workbook, or tutorial, you'll feel much more confident selling it when you've already seen your methods create results in the real world.

BONUS SIGN Your Business is Ready for Passive Products: You Keep Thinking About Creating a Passive Product... But You Keep Putting It Off

If you've been thinking about creating a passive product for months, maybe even years, but keep putting it on the back burner might actually be a sign you're ready too.

If you're reading blogs about passive income, saving Pinterest pins on how to create ebooks, listening to podcasts on the topic, or even reading a blog like this (Wink wink), clearly you KNOW it's something your business needs, but for whatever reason haven't created your first digital product yet.

Either you don't know what to create, how to actually make it, or afraid it won't sell...I know exactly how that feels because I made the mistake of creating the wrong passive product the first time around. Back in 2019, I spent months creating an EFT tapping course that I desperately needed on my own healing journey. I poured my heart into it. Recorded it. Edited it. Launched it. And then...Crickets. Absolutely zero sales after months of working on it.

At the time, I thought my audience was too small or maybe passive products weren't for me. Looking back though, neither of those things were true. The real problem was that I created something I wanted instead of something my audience was actively asking for.

That's exactly why I created my free Perfect Passive Product Worksheet!

In just 5 questions you'll discover the best selling idea your audience is already asking for so you don't waste months creating something that nobody wants.

As well as what format is easiest for your to create, who your ideal client is, and SO MUCH MORE!

The goal isn't to create just any digital product, but craft the one your audience actually wants, that aligns with your creative process, and the one you'll be excited to make instead of abandoning halfway through for a new shiny idea.

And if you've read this far into this blog, I have a sneaking suspicion that little voice in the back of your mind has already been whispering that it's time. This is your little extra nudge to go for it! Download that free worksheet and let's get started!

So... Is YOUR Business Ready?

If your calendar is full but your income isn't reflecting the amount of energy you're pouring into your business, if people keep asking you the same questions on repeat, if you've been consistently showing up for six months or more and building a small but engaged audience, or if you've secretly been thinking about creating a passive product but haven't known where to start, then I think you already know the answer.

You don't need a massive following, a complicated funnel, and you definitely don't need to hustle harder. What you actually need is a simple way to turn your experience and expertise you already have into something that can support your audience while creating more space and freedom in your life. Because at the end of the day, the goal isn't just to make more money, but to build a business that supports your most magical life aka the slow mornings in the garden, the cozy evenings cuddled up with your hobbies, the random afternoons off to enjoy time with your family, and being present for little moments that matter most.

All that starts with your first passive product! And I can't wait to hear more about it. Drop your idea down in the comments or grab that free worksheet if you need some help brainstorming your next best selling idea!

Here's to your cozypreneur era!
